Survey on the Impact of United States Tariffs on the Metals and Engineering Sector

Dear SEIFSA Member

On 7 July 2025, the United States announced its intention to impose a 30% import tariff on South African exports, effective 1 August 2025. This development has raised significant concern, particularly given that the United States accounts for approximately 8% of the output from South Africa’s Metals and Engineering Sector.

At the special SEIFSA Council meeting held on the 22nd of July 2025 the SEIFSA office indicated that we would be sending out a survey to member companies to gather critical information on the impact of this development on the sector. The information gathered will support SEIFSA’s engagement in developing a coordinated and evidence-based response to this challenge.

This survey contains 7 questions (mostly drop-down list questions) and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

We request that you kindly submit your responses by 30 July 2025
